Blood Donor

“Sorry, but we can’t use your blood, it is just NOT acceptable,” were the words I heard on the other end of the telephone line.

The news was on and I had just heard an appeal for blood.  Seriously injured, a young motor cycle rider had lost a great deal of blood.  The news continued with a telephone number to call to become a volunteer.  Hastily I phoned the number and was ready to offer my blood for this young man.

The lady at the call center told me that first she needed to ask me some questions.  She inquired if I had ever had a life threatening ailment and I answered, "Yes."

I told her that when I was 12 years old I suffered a very bad case of jaundice. Her concern was that it might have been a form of hepatitis which would eliminate me from being a donor.  She thanked me for calling but told me that they just could not use my blood because it was 'not suitable.'

I felt rebuffed and rejected when I realized that NO one wanted my blood!

A short letter to the boy was quickly composed.  I conveyed my earnest desire to help, and that I was so sorry that I could not, because the fact was my blood was not good enough.

Then I told him how the blood of Jesus was also not wanted by so many.  Briefly, I explained how Jesus was rejected but that we can choose to accept Him. The blood of Jesus will wash away our sins and we can become a believer in Christ.

There are religious organizations today that do not want the Blood of Jesus mentioned in their sermons, their songs, or in their literature.  They are repulsed by the suggestion that a blood sacrifice was necessary to pay for our salvation. It is sad, but true, that His blood is still being rejected today by some.

Each time we receive communion, let us always remember that His body was broken for our healing, and that His blood was shed for our total salvation.

The entire sum of human blood on earth would not be enough to reconcile us to God.  Only the precious blood of Jesus will do - - - ours isn’t good enough!

Jesus spoke in the book of; Matthew 26:28  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

HEALING ANGER

Proverbs 29:1 The man that with a stiff neck despises him that reproves him, shall suddenly be destroyed: and health shall not follow him.

It was a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon, and as a child of 10 years old, I wanted to be playing outside, but for some reason, I was told to stay in the house and to sit on the couch.

I can’t remember ever being that angry before, but I was violently ticked off.

Reaching over to the Sunday funny papers that lay along side of me, I hastily grabbed them, and viciously and quickly, tore them into small shreds.

My dad was in his chair, reading the sports section and he jumped up with a hop, into the kitchen, grabbed “the belt,” and with a skip he jerked me up and submitted a sound whipping to the back of my legs and back side.

When he had fulfilled his own anger, he explained to me that I did not get the thrashing because he had not read the funnies, but it was because I had destroyed something in a fit of anger.

The lesson here of course was not to break, hit, tear or destroy something while angry.  I learned a personal lesson, and that was not to display anger, but to hold it in.

When my children were growing up, I took out my anger on them.  To hear them tell it, they received a beating every day of their early lives.  Later as they grew older, the punishment turned to a short “time out,” giving them time to ponder what they had done.

Usually apologies were quick, and that would settle it, and it was considered closure.

My anger continued, turning into resentment and depression, with no outlet in sight.  Repentance did not solve it, and I was at a loss for a cure!

One eventful day, I read a pamphlet written by Derek Prince.  He spoke of all the emotions inside of us that could, and would destroy our peace.  His solution was a Spiritual plan that involved, “Binding and Loosening.”  The steps were simple enough.

I must honestly tell you these steps brought me complete victory and set me free !!

Step 1.  Find a quiet place where you can be alone and when time is not pressing!

Step 2. Desire to be set free from the disturbing emotion, or habit that is troubling you.

Step 3. Ask the Lord to show you the name of the problem you seek freedom from.

Step 4. Pause and wait. – There is no hurry.

Step 5. As you begin to realize an unwanted emotion, confess to God that you do NOT want to keep it, and release it to Him.  Name it.

Step 6. Ask the Lord to show you a replacement attitude and trade the bad with an opposite and good emotion to take its place.  Name it.

Step 7. Tell God that you receive the new, and then thank Him for his peace.

Step 8. There may be more emotions that you are not aware of, so begin again until all that might be troubling you has been released, and replaced with the new and better.

It is extremely important to replace the old attitudes and emotions with the new, because you cannot afford to have a clean but empty house!

Matthew 12:43 - 45 When the unwanted spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none.  Then he says, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he finds it empty, swept, and clean.  Then goes he, and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

Now fill your spirit with praise and worship to God and fill your mind with his Word.

Stoning the Prophet

Don't Stone the Messenger

"I don’t want to hear it!!  I’ll do as I please!  Don’t tell me what to do!"

This is the way some people act when the messenger brings something they do not want to accept.

Young children should be instructed to respect and listen to their elders, but when they are older, they often decide to go against what they have been taught.  It is just plain old fashioned rebellion and stubbornness which is in the heart of many of us at times.

The Prophets and messengers in the Bible were often censured and criticized, and sometimes stoned and killed.

People do not always appreciate the words “REPENT,” turn from your wicked ways and serve the Lord.”  If they had planned to sin, no one was going to mess with their decisions or their lifestyle.

As a young lad, Joseph had dreams of grandeur that were opposed by his brothers.  In fact his dreams caused much family friction, and the brothers hated Joseph.  One ill-fated day, they decided to kill him because of his message.

Joseph’s brothers declared; Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.”

Joshua, and Caleb, tore their clothes because the people would not receive their words. The congregation was so angry with their declaration that they challenged everyone to pick up rocks and to stone Joshua and Caleb to death.   God stopped their foolishness by appearing as the “Glory of the LORD.”

I am reminded that at church not all the messages preached by the minister are received by everyone.  Some of the congregation will listen and receive, while others are not willing to hear, and are not ready to apply the ministry lesson to their lives.

Not all words from God are heard at church.  God has many methods to get his point across.   Some messages coming at us through the gate of the ear or eye cut across the grain, and pull up the hairs on the back of our necks.  Ouch!

In today’s world we do not stone the messenger, or kill them, but we can stop up our ears and not pay attention.   Some will say, La, La, La, I can’t hear you!!

If some of these Words from the Lord are coming your way by what ever means, and the Holy Spirit is urging you to make some changes, please do not hesitate to hear His Voice.  Listen carefully and then by all means obey.

Proverbs 29:1The man that with a stiff neck despises him that reproves him, shall suddenly be destroyed: and health shall not follow him.

Mama, I Can’t See

Carefully I managed to back down off the cot where I slept and cautiously feel my way to the wall.  Then I inched along my pathway into the kitchen where my mother was preparing breakfast.

“Mama, I can’t see,” was my childish plea.

Immediately my mother understood my problem...

For days, I had been coughing and during that night the congestion had caused mucus to trickle from my eyes closing them as I slept.

Unable to open my eyes I was crying out for help.

“Not to worry,” said my mother, as she reached for a wash cloth and soaked it with warm water.  Gently she applied the cloth to my face and eyes, and before long I was set free from my prison of blindness.

Thinking back this was the worse case scenario of what we called “sleepy” in our eyes.

In life there are times when our Spiritual eyes seem to be closed and we are not able to comprehend all the good things God has in store for us.  We sleep our way through life, ignoring the gifts that He desires us to have and use.

Other times we turn our eyes away not wanting to see the suffering of others.  The fact is that even here in America there are those who are cold and go hungry every night.

We prefer to shut our eyes and ears when we hear reports of Christians being killed because of their faith.  We think to ourselves, “It can’t happen here,”  but the truth is that it can; even as various groups grow bolder in their hatred for Jesus and Christians.

May we cry out; “Oh Lord, open my eyes that I might see.”

And then open my ears so I can hear and ask, “What is the next thing that you desire me to do?”
