Chasing the Wind

Have you even watched amazed as a dog will chase his own tail?

It reminded me of a stair stepper, getting our exercise but never actually going anywhere.

Wind is different; it does travel and often has some exciting consequences.

Many years ago, we lived in Oklahoma two different times, and often there were tornado warnings.

We were careful to heed the warnings but there were many foolish persons who would chase the Tornado in their cars as they tried to take pictures.

Most were thrill seekers, and a few were seriously hurt with their foolishness.

Our neighbor told us that just prior to our first move to Oklahoma; a twister had traveled across our back yard, and took down a tree house that the former occupants had built for his children.  The tornado continued down the street removing the roof from one of the homes close by.

As soon as we were settled, we decided to make Sheridan Assembly in Tulsa, our church home.  One Wednesday evening, several members were giving testimonies about the recent tornado.

At that meeting, I remember one lady saying, “It looked like that tornado was heading for our place, so I went out in my yard and shouted to it, ‘Stop and do not come nigh my dwelling,’ and it lifted and went in the other direction.”

A gentleman spoke up and said, “If Jesus could speak to a fig tree to dry up, then might we also speak to a tornado that is approaching us and tell it to dry up?”

Jesus did say that we could speak to our mountain and tell it to be cast it into the sea, and perhaps our mountain could be a tornado or anything else that is bothering us.

Some would think this to be weird or strange to act like this, but Jesus did many out of the ordinary things that puzzled others.

Might we not be guilty of chasing the wind and getting no where, but maybe we should learn to shout and speak with a voice of authority to our wind.

Have you been chasing the wind?  Perhaps it is time to speak to it instead of chasing.

English Bull Dog
HUNGRY?

Saving money especially when grocery shopping, is a priority with me.  About once a week I stop at our local Thrift Market to scope out what is interesting and a good buy.

While shopping there, one must watch the pull dates; lest you end up with something that will later need to be tossed.

The other day, I visited the Thrift Market, and viewed a good brand of canned dog food.

It was plastic wrapped in small cases of 12 cans each and the price was $4.00 per case or three cases for $10.00.  If you can do the math, that is approximately 33 cents a can or less.

The pull date was a few days past, but the cans still looked salvageable and I placed six cartons of 12 in my basket to make my three dogs very happy.

Then I needed to go to a popular Grocery store for a few other items, also at a bargain.

As I left the parking lot, a woman walking with a small bull dog, crossed my path.  I stopped to let her pass.

I could see she was carrying a cardboard sign, and she was headed for the grass where often people sit hoping for money.

I noted her sign which said, “Homeless and in Need.”

Now, I don’t usually give out money as some will do, but my heart went out to that small dog.

Exiting my van, I opened the back and started to pull away the plastic and remove one can of dog food, but instead the Lord said, give her the entire carton of 12 cans, which I did.

She seemed happy to receive the cans of Turkey with brown rice with a convenient pull top lid.

Her dog also knew there was something in that can for her, because that tail began to wiggle violently.

The woman proceeded to open the can and use the lid to feed her puppy.

Honesty, that can of dog food looked good enough for human consumption, and it is a safe bet that some of it might end up that way.

I am reminded of the prodigal son, who was so hungry that he ate from the pig slop that he was paid to feed the pigs.

Fortunately he came to his senses and decided to return home to his father where there was a bountiful supply!

So many today are eating Religious Slop that they are finding here and there instead of going direct to the Father and reading from His Book – The Bible.

Opinions are everywhere but they will not satisfy the hunger that is in aching hearts.

Only God’s Word, full of Holy truth will fill that need.

The Good news is that Jesus is the Answer to all of our needs, and he is the Bread of Life to satisfy hunger, and he is the Living water that quenches our thirst.

We Were Disappointed - But there was a Reason

Disappointments are Often for a Good Reason

Our Pastor asked my husband to teach a Sunday morning class on “Discovering Who You Are in Christ.”  The Pastor requested an outline prior to allowing my husband to teach his lessons.

My husband and I had attended some classes held by Dr. Charles Solomon, where he taught on the “Exchanged Life.”  Dr. Solomon illustrated with diagrams that we were first “IN Adam,” and needed to be translated into the Kingdom of God’s Dear Son, and to become a new creature, “IN Christ.”

My husband had decided to present the Old man with his emotional feelings of rejection first, and lead up to the New Man who is “Accepted in the Beloved.”  The Pastor was not sure he liked this approach and made it very clear to my husband that he felt this was a negative view.

My husband told me God revealed to him, that something else was going on, and it was time for us to back out, and allow the Pastor to teach the class the way he wanted to by using some materials that we did not adhere to.  When the Holy Spirit speaks, it is time to move on.

We ended up paying a visit to the Pastor at his home and telling him that next Sunday would be our last Sunday.

We parted friends, and the Pastor told us that the door swings both ways, and we were always welcomed back.

Later we heard that the church closed down because of some sort of scandal.

Praise God, we were not a part of it, and the Lord protected us, because we listened to the inward witness.

Ephesians 1:6  To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Ephesians 5:8  For you were sometimes darkness, but now you are light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

A Bear In The Woods

A big piece of twine stretched from my bed all the way to the pull chain in the light on my wall.  First, I would look under my bed to make sure there wasn’t a big hand going to grab my leg.  Next, with a quick hop into bed, I would pull the covers over my head, and yank the twine to switch off the light!  I’d lay there with my heart pounding wildly for a few moments!

It was silly, but as a teenager, I had a vivid imagination and this was my reassuring process to help secure a good night’s sleep.

Where did all that fear come from?  Was there something that happened in my past that caused these fears?  Could I blame one of my parents for this dread?  Perhaps !!

There was a time when I was very young; it was a dark night and we were traveling in Dad’s old car, headed for home.  The country road was lined with orchards on either side and there were no lights other than the headlights of our car.  Also, there were no gas stations for a pit stop.

“Mommy I have to pee,” I whispered to her.  Mother asked my dad to stop the car and let me out.  Now I was used to a potty chair or our outhouse, but my Dad told me to go over to the ditch and do my business.  I was extremely frightened just to be in that forsaken place and was not at all certain that I really wanted to do this.

Naturally, I was taking too long and Dad was impatient to get home.  He called out, “You better hurry because there might be bears out there behind those trees!”  Bears in the woods!  “Oh dear God, please don’t let them get me,” I yelled as I sprinted for the car, “I can hold it until I get home,” and that was that!

Many of us experience fear in various forms.  Usually it is fear of the unknown.  Putting my trust in Jesus was my solution.  It could be your answer too.  He is as close as a whisper.”  I call upon Him anytime I am in trouble and so can you!

Yes - - I suppose I might be able to attribute some of the blame to my Dad for, in a way, he unknowingly planted the seed.  However we truly can’t blame parents or people for our terror. The source of all fear is from Satan who is the deceiver and destroyer.  He is the one who desires to rob you of your peace.

Since those childhood days, I have filled my heart with scripture verses that I repeat when I feel afraid.  The Bible instructs us many times:  Do not be afraid and do not worry!  Here are a few of my favorites:

2Timothy 1:7  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

1Peter 5:7  Casting all your care (fears and worry) upon him; for he cares for you.

1John 4:18  There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear hath torment.

Please Step Out of the Truck !!
BETRAYAL

The morning was bright and it was a good day for installing new roofs.  The trucks were loaded, and only one more detail needed attending.  Robert left the yard and ran up the stairs planning to enter the office for a quick note.

Almost in midair, my husband stopped his stride, as he heard the voice of the Lord speak so clearly, “Go back to the yard and fire your cousin Jimmy.”

WOW, he thought to himself, “What is that all about?”

Without hesitation, he ceased his flight into the office, and returned to the yard.  In a voice quick and unwavering he requested Jimmy to step out of the truck.

“Jimmy, I do not know what this is all about, but the Lord just spoke to me and said to let you go, so take your tools and leave; you are fired.”

No questions were asked by Jimmy, it was as if he already knew, and we were soon to discover.

Within a few days we received a telephone call from a lady telling us that the roof we had recently installed for her was leaking.

We had no record of this roof installation!

It appeared that on the week ends, our trusted cousin was using his access to our yard and was working on the side for his own profit.  He was using our truck, our contracts, our materials, collecting the payments, and all without our knowledge.

The Lord was kind to us and put a stop to it!

In life there are many forms of betrayal.

Perhaps the worse kind is that of a beloved relative or friend.  Wounded souls strive to recover from the effect of damage from unfaithful spouses, cheating fiancĂ©es, abusive parents, rape, drug and alcohol abuse and a list too numerous to name.  The effects of betrayal ripple through the entire family as they are all injured in the holocaust.

Disloyalty from a person who was admired, idolized and loved is so very difficult to fathom.  Where is relief for those aching from such treachery?  Where is there a solace for the deeply hurt?

In his final hours prior to the crucifixion, Jesus was betrayed with a kiss by one of his closest disciples, Judas.

A short time later, his beloved Peter, denied knowing Jesus and to prove his rejection, he cursed Jesus.  Then at last all the disciples fled in terror, leaving Jesus alone, abandoned and betrayed.

About that time, Jesus took on himself all the sins of the world on his body, including your sins and mine.

His Heavenly father could not bear to look at Jesus and darkness covered the earth. To have His Heavenly Father turn His back, intensified Jesus’ anguish and suffering. It was simply too much.

In our human aching, we may desire to blame God for the failures of our loved ones.  We may even end up cursing God because we hurt so horribly.  We might even say, “Oh yes, they knew perfectly well what they were doing and I will pay them back by punishing them in my own way.”

What was the reaction of Jesus to all this mental, emotional and physical rejection?  Finally His words rang out, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

Forgiveness may not change the circumstances, but forgiveness frees up the forgiver. It begins a healing process that may have been long needed.

The persons who have done the wrong deeds will do doubt suffer a lengthy and lingering regret.  Ultimately, they will experience the consequences of their actions.

If you are hurting and angry today from betrayal, kneel at the feet of Jesus and allow Him to take you in his arms. He understands it all, and He loves you very much!!  Then, permit the gentle Jesus to show you His love and His forgiveness for your own rebellion and betrayal.
